5 Tips for Organizing Outdoor Equipment and Tools
Living in an area with a plethora of outdoor activities naturally leads to owning a stockpile of gear to accompany it. Here are a few tips to organize your garage or storage space to minimize the time spent searching for gear and maximize your time in the great outdoors:
1. Group by activity: do you have to look in more than one place to find your camping gear or the right tool for the garden? Try grouping equipment for a single activity in one area or bin for quicker retrieval.
2. Swap seasonal items: if there is not enough space to have everything easily accessible, consider swapping out seasonal gear. During the summer, winter gear can be stored on higher shelves or in a less accessible location. Then there will be room to have gardening tools, camping gear, bikes, and yard games within easy reach.
3. Think vertical: utilize the vertical space in your garage to maximize what can be stored while still being able to pull in your vehicle. There are great shelving and ceiling storage options available such as elfa and ProMAX that can help you maximize your space.
4. Re-evaluate your interests: back in the day you used to be an amazing downhill skier, but you haven't strapped on your skis in over 20 years. It's time to decide if you will really use them again. If not, you can free up the space for other hobbies that you currently enjoy.
5. Think outside the box: if you don't have a garage or a storage shed in the yard, there are still creative ways to store your equipment. Create closet space for drawers or bins for smaller gear, while hanging larger pieces of equipment such as bikes and snowboards as decor.
